TVP1

TVP1 (TVP Jeden, Program I Telewizji Polskiej, "Jedynka") is a television channel owned by TVP (Telewizja Polska S.A.), Poland's national public broadcaster. It was the first Polish channel to be broadcast and remains one of the most popular today. TVP1 was launched August 1939/25 October 1952 (tests), January 1953 (regular programming).

In addition to its SD broadcast, a HD version of TVP1 is also available. Test broadcast started in January 2011, later in June 2012 official broadcast of TVP1 HD began with the coverage of the UEFA Euro 2012.[2]

Yankton, South Dakota

Yankton is a city in, and the county seat of, Yankton County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 14,454 at the 2010 census. Yankton is the principal city of the Yankton Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes the entirety of Yankton County, and which had an estimated population of 22,662 as of July 1, 2017. Yankton was the first capital of Dakota Territory. It is named for the Yankton tribe of Nakota (Sioux) Native Americans; Yankton is derived from the Nakota word I-hank-ton-wan ("the end village").[9]

Yankton is located on the Missouri River just downstream of the Gavins Point Dam and Lewis and Clark Lake and just upstream of the confluence with the James River. The United States National Park Service's headquarters for the Missouri National Recreational River are located in the city. The Human Services Center was established as a psychiatric hospital in 1882 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Yankton is commonly referred to as the "River City",[10] due to its proximity to the Missouri River and the importance that the river played in the city's settlement and development. Yankton has also earned the nickname, "Mother City of the Dakotas", due to the early important role it played in the creation and development of the Dakota Territory, which later became the 39th and 40th U.S. states of North and South Dakota.[11]

Tripp, South Dakota

As of the census[3] of 2010, there were 647 people, 290 households, and 167 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,096.6 inhabitants per square mile (423.4/km2). There were 360 housing units at an average density of 610.2 per square mile (235.6/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 98.5% White, 0.6% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.2% from other races, and 0.6% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.7% of the population.

There were 290 households of which 19.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2% were married couples living together, 5.5% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.9% had a male householder with no wife present, and 42.4% were non-families. 38.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 26.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.06 and the average family size was 2.64.

The median age in the city was 55.2 years. 16.5% of residents were under the age of 18; 3.3% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 18.3% were from 25 to 44; 24.8% were from 45 to 64; and 37.2% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 48.1% male and 51.9% female.

Webster, South Dakota

At the 2010 census,[3] there were 1,886 people, 878 households and 481 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,265.8 inhabitants per square mile (488.7/km2). There were 1,007 housing units at an average density of 675.8 per square mile (260.9/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 95.1% White, 0.2% African American, 2.3% Native American, 0.2% Asian, 0.3% from other races, and 1.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.7% of the population.

There were 878 households of which 25.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 41.8% were married couples living together, 9.1% had a female householder with no husband present, 3.9% had a male householder with no wife present, and 45.2% were non-families. 41.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 21% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.08 and the average family size was 2.81.

The median age was 46.3 years. 22.9% of residents were under the age of 18; 6.4% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 19.2% were from 25 to 44; 26% were from 45 to 64; and 25.5% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 47.3% male and 52.7% female.

Tulare, South Dakota

As of the census[4] of 2010, there were 207 people, 90 households, and 52 families residing in the town. The population density was 796.2 inhabitants per square mile (307.4/km2). There were 103 housing units at an average density of 396.2 per square mile (153.0/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 98.1% White, 0.5% Native American, 0.5% Asian, and 1.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.5% of the population.

There were 90 households of which 24.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.8% were married couples living together, 5.6% had a female householder with no husband present, 4.4% had a male householder with no wife present, and 42.2% were non-families. 34.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 2.96.

The median age in the town was 44.8 years. 22.2% of residents were under the age of 18; 8.7% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 19.3% were from 25 to 44; 28% were from 45 to 64; and 21.7% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the town was 52.2% male and 47.8% female.

Wessington, South Dakota

The early growth of Wessington began because it was a transshipment point for locally produced grains[9] because of the railroad (C. & N.W. Ry. Co.[10]). This allowed local producers lower shipping costs compared to villages further from railroads, encouraging the location of other businesses in the town. Wessington originally was located in Beadle County, and the cohesiveness the community soon led to growth into neighboring Hand County.

In 1918 there was a flourishing natural ice business that provisioned refrigerated freight cars.[11] The cattle industry in the area has increased the market quality of the nation's cattle through improvements in herd management and adaptations to changing consumer demands. Many producers have received national recognition throughout the years.[12]

As of the census[3] of 2010, there were 170 people, 91 households, and 44 families residing in the city. The population density was 447.4 inhabitants per square mile (172.7/km2). There were 139 housing units at an average density of 365.8 per square mile (141.2/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 98.8% White and 1.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.

Tyndall, South Dakota

Tyndall is located at 42°59′30″N 97°51′49″W / 42.991775°N 97.863539°W / 42.991775; -97.863539.[10]South Dakota Highway 50 serves the community and runs east-west on the southern end of town, and South Dakota Highway 37 is located just west of town.

As of the census[3] of 2010, there were 1,067 people, 471 households, and 268 families residing in the city. The population density was 675.3 inhabitants per square mile (260.7/km2). There were 531 housing units at an average density of 336.1 per square mile (129.8/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 97.9% White, 0.1% African American, 0.7% Native American, 0.6% from other races, and 0.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.6% of the population.

There were 471 households of which 23.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.3% were married couples living together, 7.9% had a female householder with no husband present, 2.8% had a male householder with no wife present, and 43.1% were non-families. 39.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 22.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.12 and the average family size was 2.88.

Wessington Springs, South Dakota

The Wessington Springs townsite was founded in 1880 and platted in 1882, early in the era of agricultural settlement in the region. The town's boom era began in 1903, when a branch line of the Milwaukee Road railroad was constructed into the town from the east.[8]

The town was the home of Wessington Springs College, an institution of higher learning that existed from 1887 until 1968. There is a baseball field in town that hosts an amateur baseball team named the Wessington Springs Owls

On June 18, 2014 the town of Wessington Springs was hit by a tornado.[9] At approximately 7:45 PM the tornado tore through the heart of Wessington Springs and 50+ homes were destroyed, and 77 people were left homeless. Many other buildings and properties were damaged significantly. No fatalities were reported but several injuries were sustained. The town's emergency sirens gave residents significant advance notice to the threat, allowing residents to flee to the town's fallout shelter avoiding injury and death. The town was on lockdown for several hours to prevent further injuries and blockages.[10][11]

Valley Springs, South Dakota

As of the census[3] of 2010, there were 759 people, 306 households, and 202 families residing in the city. The population density was 925.6 inhabitants per square mile (357.4/km2). There were 327 housing units at an average density of 398.8 per square mile (154.0/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 95.9% White, 0.5% African American, 0.7% Native American, 0.1% Asian, 0.8% from other races, and 2.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.2% of the population.

There were 306 households of which 36.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.7% were married couples living together, 9.5% had a female householder with no husband present, 5.9% had a male householder with no wife present, and 34.0% were non-families. 28.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.00.

The median age in the city was 36.4 years. 28.2% of residents were under the age of 18; 6% were between the ages of 18 and 24; 29.7% were from 25 to 44; 28% were from 45 to 64; and 8% were 65 years of age or older. The gender makeup of the city was 52.6% male and 47.4% female.

Sicherheitsdienst

Sicherheitsdienst (German: [ˈzɪçɐhaɪtsˌdiːnst], Security Service), full title Sicherheitsdienst des Reichsführers-SS (Security Service of the Reichsführer-SS), or SD, was the intelligence agency of the SS and the Nazi Party in Nazi Germany. The organization was the first Nazi intelligence organization to be established and was considered a sister organization with the Gestapo, which the SS had infiltrated heavily after 1934. Between 1933 and 1939, the SD was administered as an independent SS office, after which it was transferred to the authority of the Reich Main Security Office (Reichssicherheitshauptamt; RSHA), as one of its seven departments/offices.[2] Its first director, Reinhard Heydrich, intended for the SD to bring every single individual within the Third Reich's reach under "continuous supervision."[3]

Following Germany's defeat in World War II, the SD was declared a criminal organisation at the Nuremberg Trials, along with the rest of Heydrich's RSHA (including the Gestapo) both individually and as branches of the SS in the collective.[4] Heydrich's successor, Ernst Kaltenbrunner, was convicted of war crimes and crimes against humanity at the Nuremberg trials, sentenced to death and hanged in 1946.[5]

The SD, one of the oldest security organizations of the SS, first formed in 1931 as the Ic-Dienst (Intelligence Service[a]) operating out of a single apartment and reporting directly to Heinrich Himmler. Himmler appointed a former junior naval officer, Reinhard Heydrich, to organise the small agency.[6] The office was renamed Sicherheitsdienst (SD) in the summer of 1932.[7] The SD became more powerful after the Nazi Party took control of Germany in 1933 and the SS started infiltrating all leading positions of the security apparatus of the Reich. Even before Hitler became Chancellor in January 1933, the SD was a veritable "watchdog" over the SS and over members of the Nazi Party and played a critical role in consolidating political-police powers into the hands of Himmler and Heydrich.[8]
